Onigiri with crab
Onigiri are triangular rice balls, most often built around seafood. Our mate Kristoffer, the man behind @krisslovesfood, has made a version with spicy crab and it. is. absolutely. insanely. good! 🦀🌶
Ingredients
For the crab filling
- g Picked crab
- tbsp Mayonnaise
- tbsp Sriracha or chilli sauce
- Spring onions
For everything else
- g Sushi rice
- Nori (you can buy a pack of this in most supermarkets)
- tbsp Sesame seeds
Instructions
Cook the rice according to the pack instructions and mix in salt at the end. Leave the rice to cool for 5-10 minutes.
Put the crabmeat from the shell in a bowl and mix in the mayonnaise, sriracha and finely chopped spring onion.
Divide the rice into 5-8 portions and shape each one into a round ball. Press it flat with a small hollow in the middle. Add 1 tablespoon of the crab filling. Wrap the rice around the filling and shape it into a triangle.
Scatter over the sesame seeds and wrap the rice in nori. Serve with soy sauce.
Shaping the onigiri into a triangle is optional. Serving them round works perfectly well.
